Research Into My Role

To introduce this article, the brief was to research into my role as a social media manager. I wanted to analyse the benefits of social media in implementing a successful digital marketing strategy by making use of statistics to support my personal development plan.



“Instagram users engage more on weekdays” (Osman, 2018).


“Photos with faces get 38% more likes” (Osman, 2018).


In the United Kingdom, 79% of adults use Facebook, 47% use Twitter and 41% use Instagram (Battisby, 2018).


Around half the population in the United Kingdom use Facebook daily (Battisby, 2018).


18-34 year-olds account for 61% of the user base on Instagram (Battisby, 2018).


62% of 18-24 year olds use Twitter (Rose, 2019).


In the UK, Instagram is ahead of Twitter in the usage rankings (Rose, 2019).


Facebook is most favoured by 23-37 year olds, with 80% of the age bracket using the platform regularly (Rose, 2018).

There are around 800 million active users on Instagram, 34% of which meet the target demographic of milk (Benson, 2018).


Successful branding is highly dependent on visual media, with images often raising emotions in an audience that leads to sustained engagement and action (Scientific, 2018).


“Posts with images produce 650% higher engagement than text-only posts” (Monaghan, 2018).


“Utilize Instagram Stories to share ‘behind-the-scenes’ clips that show the people – and personality – behind your brand” (Hughes, 2017).


One third of Instagram users watch stories each day (González, 2018).
