Here, I reflect on the collaborative aspect of the module. I demonstrate an ability to interact effectively with industry professionals, although highlight my struggles of working in a creative team. This is followed by a discussion of my strategies to manage these challenging situations and an analysis of collaboration within my role as a whole.
I feel I have demonstrated an ability to interact effectively with industry professionals as a result of my successful navigation of interviews. However, I admit I struggled with the communication aspect of working in a creative team due to organisational difficulties.
In reflection, perhaps I should have been more assertive for collaboration within my role. However, when looking at the expectations of my role, I did not feel that management fell under my jurisdiction. After all, I was not a marketing manager. Although I attempted to engage in collaboration, these efforts were not followed up by the relevant people. Personally, I feel I gave ample opportunity to be collaborative within my role. I shared all of my marketing campaigns to be revised by the marketing team. I asked for contributions to visual content and team bios for a social media campaign on multiple occasions.
I tried managing these challenging situations by responding quickly to queries that involved my role, speaking up in team meetings, communicating what I needed politely through email and making myself available for the whole team. I also recorded my feelings to such challenges in a reflective journal to monitor my personal development as I knew collaboration was a skill I needed to hone.
Ultimately, I found it easier to continue autonomously due to my own experience in similar roles and the research I conducted into strategies for successful social media management. This meant that I met set deadlines and generally had an easier time by not relying on others for content.
Overall, I am aware that collaboration is inevitable when working within creative teams in a professional environment. In this circumstance, I don’t feel that I could have done any more to improve the situation. However, I acknowledge that I must be more positive to the idea of relying on others. Looking forwards, I strive to be more assertive in collaborative work and encourage productivity by taking on a leadership role.
